Last reviewed 30 October 2026. Prices come from each company's own pages on that date and may have changed. We make HTTP Tiger, so read this with that in mind; we have tried to be fair, including where httpstatus.io is the better choice.
The short answer
- Checking a list once? Either tool works. Both check up to 100 URLs at a time for free and show the status code for each.
- Need an API for your own scripts or CI? Choose httpstatus.io. Its API plans start at €15/month for 20,000 calls. HTTP Tiger does not sell API keys yet.
- Want the same list checked again tomorrow, and told when something breaks? Choose HTTP Tiger. Pro ($9/month) saves 10 lists of up to 1,000 URLs, re-checks them every day and emails you what changed.

Where httpstatus.io is the better choice
If you are a developer who wants to call a status-check API from code, a deploy pipeline or a spreadsheet, httpstatus.io is built for that and sells it today. Its Google Sheets and XLS export are also handy if your team lives in spreadsheets. HTTP Tiger has no public API for paying customers yet, and we would rather say so than sell you something that is not there.
Where HTTP Tiger is the better choice
Most status checks are not one-offs. After a site migration you want to know that the 301s still point to the right place next week. An agency wants to know the morning a client's product page starts returning 404. That is a list you check again and again, and it is what HTTP Tiger charges for:
- Paste your URLs once and save them as a list (or click Save as list after any check).
- Pro re-checks every list once a day; Agency every hour, or daily if you prefer.
- Each run is compared with the last one. You see exactly which URLs broke, which were fixed, and which redirects now point somewhere else.
- You get an email digest when something changes (and a Slack message on Agency). No change, no email, unless you ask for one.
Doing the same thing with an API means writing and hosting a script, a scheduler and the alerting yourself, and paying for every call.
Cost for a typical job
Say you watch 1,000 URLs and want them checked once a day. That is about 30,000 checks a month. On httpstatus.io's published plans that needs the Standard plan at €35/month (50,000 calls), plus your own script to run it and alert you. On HTTP Tiger it fits in Pro at $9/month, with the scheduling and email built in. If you need the same 1,000 URLs checked every hour, that is about 720,000 checks a month: beyond httpstatus.io's largest listed plan, and within HTTP Tiger Agency ($29/month, 20 lists of up to 1,000 URLs).
What HTTP Tiger does not do
HTTP Tiger asks each URL for its headers (a HEAD request; saved-list checks fall back to GET when a server refuses HEAD) and records the status code and response time. It does not follow redirects: a 301 is reported as a 301, and saved lists also record where it points. It does not crawl your site to discover pages, render JavaScript, or monitor endpoints every minute. For minute-by-minute uptime monitoring of a few endpoints, use a dedicated monitor such as our sister product Status Tiger.
