Last reviewed 30 October 2026, using Screaming Frog's own pricing page. We make HTTP Tiger; Screaming Frog is an excellent tool and for many jobs it is the right one.
Two different jobs
Crawling starts from one page and follows links to discover a site, then audits what it finds: titles, meta descriptions, canonicals, redirect chains, rendering, internal links. Screaming Frog SEO Spider is built for this and does it very well.
List checking starts from URLs you already have: a migration redirect map, a sitemap export, the pages a client cares about, links in a campaign. You need each one's status code, and you want to know when that changes. That is what HTTP Tiger does.

When HTTP Tiger is enough
- Site migration: paste every old URL from your redirect map, confirm each returns a 301, then save the list so it is re-checked daily for the next few weeks. If a redirect starts pointing somewhere else or a page returns 404, you get an email.
- Client watch lists: an agency keeps 20 lists (Agency plan), one per client, checked every hour, with alerts going to a Slack channel.
- Quick checks on a borrowed laptop: nothing to install, nothing to license per machine.
When you still want Screaming Frog
- You do not have the URL list yet and need to discover every page on the site.
- You need to audit on-page SEO elements, JavaScript rendering, hreflang or internal linking.
- You need a single crawl of tens of thousands of URLs in one go on your own machine.
Many people use both: Screaming Frog to build the list, HTTP Tiger to keep checking it.
How HTTP Tiger checks a URL
Each URL gets a HEAD request (saved-list checks retry with GET when a server refuses HEAD). We record the status code and the time to the first response; a redirect is reported as the 3xx code, and saved lists also record where it points. Requests to private or internal network addresses are refused. Each run of a saved list is compared with the previous run, URL by URL, so you see what broke, what was fixed and which redirects changed target.
